Do you smell that?

Inhale deeply and maybe you'll smell what I am smelling in our home! What's one to do on a chilly Saturday morning?  Bake bread to go along with that grilled steak you'll be having later in the day of course! ;)

My morning started out with getting around to take Fritz, our dog, to the vet for his shots.  Thinking ahead to dinner and steaks on the grill I thought some homemade bread sounded like it would be good with it.  Well since I woke up at 3:30 this morning and couldn't get back to sleep my energy level was low.  So I decided to make "Simple Crusty No Knead Bread".  from the book “Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day,” by Jeff Hertzberg and Zoë François

You can view the video below, it will show you how easy it is to make this bread.  It is so SIMPLE.  We love this bread.  I use the recipe to make small buns with also.  YUM!

A simple Google will provide you with the recipe.  I highly recommend buying the book.  There are so many good recipes in it.  I purchased the cookbook Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day: the Discovery That Revolutionizes Home Baking from Alibris for $16.75 (normally $27.95 new). This was being listed as “Like New” condition. I figured once I got it in my kitchen once it would be ‘used’ anyways ;) I’ve ordered used books before from Alibris and have always received excellent books.  And as always it came in excellent condition.

Our bread.....soon to be part of our dinner. ;)

I have found that the crust will soften a tad when cooled.  I just pop the loaf back in the oven for a few minutes on low heat to crisp it up.

I'm ready for dinner! ;)

  1. Love, love, love fresh homemade bread! I quit baking it very often once the kids left home because hubby and I would eat the whole loaf in one sitting!

  5. Your bread turned out beautifully! There really is nothing quite like the smell of bread baking. I'm not sure it would make it until dinner at our house!

Stay tunred for further bread adventures! In the meantime, think I'll bookmark this post and see if I can get anywhere near your loaf!

  7. I came back to read your post again. I wish I had remembered it. I had to run out and buy rye flour for my recipe. I'm going to google and try this one too.
